                                                                               School & School Busing

For the 1st, few years my wife had to use the company 9 passenger suburban to transport our children and later on others to high school bus facilities and 1st to 8th grades at the Chloride school.

Each morning the high school children were driven to Grasshopper Junction to catch the Kingman high school bus at 6:45 A.M., the grade school children were then taken into Chloride to Mrs. Lawrence's home, the sitter, to wait to go to school at 9:00 A.M. Very tiring on the children.

It then required 2-afternoon trips to pick them up. Drive to Chloride to get the smaller children at 3:00 P.M. then back to Grasshopper Junction to meet the high school bus at 5:00 P.M.

I might add if we had not of moved into the area when we did, they were going to close the Chloride school as there were only 6 children to attend school.

It was 1962 before-we were successful in getting the high school to extend it's run to now Dolan Springs and a grammar school bus in 1964.

In 1966 movement was started by us to construct a school in Dolan Springs. We only had 16 grammar school students.

It required 3 school elections and in the Spring of 1967, we were successful. Our school was opened for the fall session in 1967.

To sweeten the pot a little the company thru my efforts gave them 5 acres at the present location and we piped water to them from Dolan Springs.

My son Kevin White at least was able to attend the Mt. Tipton School for 2 weeks before we moved to Las Vegas for a short period. Over the years, however, as Kevin grew to manhood, married and started his own family he has 2 children attending the school and Kevin has also served a term on the school board.

Kevin White and his son, I'm certain have a couple of firsts in the family, to date, Kevin White is the only area person to begin school in the Chloride School District, graduate from Kingman high school. His son Kevin (Dusty) White now goes to school at Mt. Tipton, his grandparents, Tom & Florence White live here, his grandparents on his mother's (Barbara) side lived here for several years and his Great Grandparents on his mother's side have lived here for several years.
